Axle One
I need some help on this Highway Engineering problem?
Truck A has two single axles. One axle weighs 12000 lb and the other weighs 23000 lb. Truck B has an 8000 lb single axle load and a 43000-lb tandem axle. On a flexible pavement with a 3-inch hot-mix asphalt wearing surface, a 6-inch soil-cement base, and an 8-inch crushed stone subbase, which truck will cause more pavement damage? (Assume drainage coefficients are 1.0)
I am confused on what formulas to use to get this answer. Any help would be great. Thanks!
You can use the AASHTO design formula & tables , u’ll need to get the equivalent axle load for both trucks (from the formula too) & then u’ll know which has more impact.
P.S : higher tire pressure , destorys the W.S , while heavier loads destory the Base & Sub-Base.
