Are the Wrangler Sports not good off road?
I’m planning on buying a new Wrangler soon, and it will go off road as well as a daily driver. I can afford the sport right now, but everyone says if you go off road you have to have the rubicon. I guess I’m wondering what are the biggest differences, and should I save my money for the rubicon.

If I would buy the sport model I will probably put some kind of smaller lift for some bigger tires in the future just not right away.
A sport will do just fine in the dirt. It is a Jeep.
Yes, the Rubicon is a better off road toy, but it does cost a lot more for a lot of upgrades that are not needed to play in the dirt. The Rubicon has a 4:1 transfer case that is great for rock crawling. It does not help you in the sand or mud. It also had a slip yoke eliminator that helps reduce drive line vibration if you lift it. Lower gears from the factory, but you will still want to regear it if you run larger tires. Front and rear lockers that you will not use most of the time unless you are rock crawling. Dana 44 axles that are the best thing about it, but still need to be changed out for a serious rock crawler.
A bone stock Jeep does great in the dirt. That is what they were designed for. The Rubicon is worth the money if you are looking to build a rock crawler. If you just want an off road toy, buy the Sport and save some cash. Mfamilyly does a lot of Jeeping. I have built a 2005 Unlimited Rubicon long arm on 37′s for my Dad. A 1991 Wrangler on 35′s for my little brother and I can hang with either Jeep on the trails in my bone stock 1961 Willys Wagon (sporting 29″ tires with no ground clearance, except for the dents on the lower part of the body). I am currently building a 1979 CJ-7 (my first vehicle, I got it when I was 14) wide track Jeep with Chevrolet running gear for a toy. It will be set up for either rock crawling or high speeds across the desert. I have driven my CJ-7 all over the place over the years and it has never left me at the bottom of a hill or stuck in a Valley that it could not climb out of. I installed a 4″ Rancho lift on it back in 1988 with 33″ tires and have not touched the suspension since (except to replace bushings and a broken leaf spring). It is more or less stock (factory V8) and a great toy.
If you buy the Sport, make sure you get the 6 cylinder. The 4 banger is a dog.
