Acer Aspire AS5251-1805 – An Excellent Budget Laptop With The Best Price
The Acer Aspire AS5251-1805 is a good quality budget laptop that is quite able to handle routine day-to-day use. We purchased the item from Amazon. com on sale meant for $379, about $100 off the collection price. I am an IT student and was needing a new laptop that I could use daily, both at home and school. The reviews that are positive in Amazon are what convinced me to invest in it.
When closed, the top (back with the display) has a nice carbon-fiber-look cover. When open, the display bezel is shiny black plastic that tends to reflect lots of light. The keyboard bezel is created to look like brushed aluminum or metal. The texture even lends to this particular appearance.
The AMD V120 (2. 2 GHz, 64-bit, single-core) processor runs of them costing only 25W and the cooling fan makes very little noise. This is a relatively awesome and quiet running computer. Even for a single-core, the processor is quite have the ability for day-to-day use.
It came with 3 GB of SDRAM, which is enough for most purposes, but does not even lend to overwhelming performance. The chipset allows for approximately one 8 GB of 1066 MHz SDRAM by installing a pair of 4 GB SODIMMs. With 3 GB from SDRAM, the SODIMMs were mismatched – one 1 GB and something 2 GB, running at different data transfer rates.
The processor and RAM combination let me run several virtual machines at a period of time using MS Virtual PC 2007 factored in my course curriculum, but overall performance is affected by way of sharing the RAM between what are essentially 3 to 4 computers at a time. Because with this, I found it necessary to improve to 4 GB of SDRAM – two matched 2 GB SODIMMs running by 1066 MHz.
The Acer Aspire AS5251 GAME ENTHUSIASTS LED screen is large and transparent with good color quality and taking a look at angles. It does not make a laptop so large or heavy (5. 75 lbs) that must be inconvenient to carry around in any backpack. The smooth, shiny surface does typically reflect some light, however.
Graphics are handled well through on-board ATI Radeon(tm) HD 4250 Images with 256 MB of dedicated product memory, and can share up to help you 1405 MB of system RAM. This will give for maximum resolution of 1366 a 768. The graphics and screen are relatively capable for many of us games, as well as viewing Dvd disks and streaming video.
The SATA 250 GB hard disc drive is sufficient for most uses, but may very well be insufficient for users with large MP3 libraries or several installed games and applications. Due to help space requirements, I use and outside HDD for my virtual machines intended for school.
The inclusion of a number pad over the keyboard is a nice convenience, but it causes all of those other keyboard to be somewhat off-center. This ingests a little getting used to, but is usually a minor inconvenience. There is even your flush-mounted multi-touch touchpad.
The laptop offers three USB 2. 0 ports, one relating to the left, and two on the most suitable. It would probably have been more comfortable to have them upon the back. However, since this is a rather slim laptop, the location of the battery does not allow for any specific ports to be located on the spine.
Also included are HDMI and VGA videos ports, a built-in webcam, Gigabit Ethernet convey, microphone and headphone jacks, and multi-card person who reads (on the front).
Wi-Fi is suitable for 802. 11b, g and n values.
No Bluetooth is included on that model, although it may possible to yourself, if you wish, as the motherboard does have the capability for a Bluetooth card.
The multi-layer DVD-Super Multiple DL drive is fast, but fairly noisy when burning CDs or Cds.
Overall, this Acer is a good, capable budget laptop.
