I wanna be a Pro Road Cyclist Is It Possible?
Hi
I wanna be a pro road cyclist, in either premier calendar or better,
is it still possible ? I am 18 in 3 weeks
bin riding for club for 10 months
and from december i am gonna bang from about 200 – 450 miles a week with differesnt sessions for speed and endurance,
but with all the 14 – 15 year old superstars in bc development squad could i make it into a team ?

First, anything is not possible if you set your mind to it. You should be realistic in your goals and be prepared to find another option should your cycling goals not realize themselves. It is good to aim high, but it is also important to be pragmatic.
You should start by finding a coach and a team to race with. There are likely several amateur teams around in your area. Not all of them will have the same big budget as your local super-star team, but they will also provide valuable support and knowledge. A coach and a team will provide you with the training knowledge, structure, and means to race in larger amateur events. You must start somewhere and even a small amateur team will help springboard you to larger teams with larger budgets.
If you don’t have the means to pay for coaching services you can read “The Cyclist’s Training Bible” and “High-Intensity Training”. They are self-coaching books that will help you create a training plan that will allow you to realize your full potential. Training is not about riding fast and getting faster. Training is a highly technical skill that involves a basic understanding of human physiology and the demands of your sport.
It is not too late to become a professional cyclists. But, you must start serious training now. A coach is essential, and a team is valuable. More information about racing can be found on the Canadian Cycling Association website
