What is the quality level of BOTTECCHIA USA bicycles?
Would anyone recommend them? Any further information would be appreciated. I am thinking of finally upgrading my 70′s Panasonic road bike.
Are you talking about the modern ones that bikesdirect.com sells? The way I heard it, they bought the US rights to the brand name, and the bikes are made in some generic factory in the far East. Not that there’s anything wrong with that – bikesdirect has a really good reputation and some of their deals are at incredible prices. They’re basically a volume-based importer and direct shipper, cut out the middleman, buy in bulk type operation.

And that’s just an amazing deal. The frame/fork is nothing too exciting, but the component group alone is worth almost that much at retail.
If you’re talking about the older, steel Bottechias imported years ago, ignore them. Most of them were cheap mass-market junk, there are a few legitimate high-end handmade Italian bikes around in collector hands.
